Keith and I both hope to be able to attend "Thunda Down Under"[1] in
2015, and I've sent the organizers email requesting information on what
it takes to be treated as an on-site vendor.
Of course, it's always more fun to be at a launch when you have something
interesting to fly! Thus, while Keith and I might each show up with a
modest "travel rocket" of some sort... I've started pondering possible
larger "Altus Metrum" group projects. Since transporting a large
airframe to Australia would be a hassle, I wonder if a group project to
build an airframe in-country makes more sense? To that end, I'd be
pleased to know if any of our friends and customers in Australia want to
sign up to help with such a project?
My thoughts would be to engage in some group-think about project scope
and goals, then hope friends in-country would take on the sourcing and
preparation of suitable airframe materials. Depending on who wants to
participate and how tasks get taken up, we might plan to arrive a bit
early to help with any final assembly or other preparations,
installation of suitably fresh Altus Metrum electronics, etc.
So, to all our Aussie friends... does this sound like fun? If so,
please chime in with a reply. I don't expect the email associated with
such a project to be too heavy a load for this list to carry, but we can
always spawn a dedicated lists.gag.com list if I'm wrong.

Bdale

I was let down by the battery last weekend. While it is probably my fault, it meant I had to swap out the TeleMetrum for a non-trackable flight computer. This led to an hour of whacking bushes so to speak in farmers fields. This is what I got the TeleMetrum to prevent. So I have some questions about the best way to care for and handle the battery. (I’m using the 900 MaH LiPO)
When I last used the device, I’d returned from the field exhausted. I just set the rocket aside with the battery still connected to the TeleMetrum. I knew this would drain the battery, but I thought it would be no worse than that. When I did take it out to charge, I found that I’d actually left it on, so it had been transmitting until it died. Oops. So I put it on to charge overnight before bringing it to the field.
I’d never actually checked it until I got to the field. The battery hadn’t charged at all. It was dead. I put it on a car charger for a little while, but I was getting nothing. So I had to swap it out for another, less capable, computer. When I removed the battery from the foam I had wrapped it in, I also noticed that it had swollen, and was no longer the flat battery I had put in.
So my questions are:
1. Is it normal for a battery to fail after being fully and completely discharged, or do I have a bad battery?
2. Is the swelling of the battery normal? If not, what would cause this?
3. What are some good ‘Best Practices’ for the care and handling of the battery?

When a Telemetrum or TeleMega are in launch mode, they're transmit only so
you should be able to receive packets on both your laptop and phone at the
same time.

This may be a dumb question but is there anywhere that describes how to know
when the TeleBT is fully charged? Also, Can a TeleBT be connected to the
Telemtrum via phone and at the same time a teledongle be connected to the
same Telemetrum via computer?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi guys,
I've flown my Telemetrum V2 twice. On both flights it appears that the GPS
position didn't update from boost until the mid way through coast. I've
seen other TM KML files and they don't seem to have this issue. Is this
normal?
Thanks,

Dear All,
I'm in need of some advice and guidance with the programming of my
TeleDongle Version 0.2 with the appropriate AltOS image.
I have an uncased (Non-Starter Kit, Serial Number 142) TeleDongle
Version 0.2 which I need to use as a second ground station for my
TeleMega Version 1.0 (and/or my TeleGPS Version 1.0). I've installed it
into a rugged, screened metal enclosure with a 3 metre USB cable so that
it could be located as close as possible to the antenna to minimise
feeder loss.
I've attempted to test it with both Windows 7 and Windows XP laptop PCs
(which are known to work well with my other TeleDongle Version 0.2
supplied as part of my Starter Pack). Unfortunately the TeleDongle isn't
recognised by either Windows 7 or Windows XP, and being shown as having
stopped working. As a result of this I suspected that the uncased
TeleDongles may have been supplied "blank" and without an AltOS image.
I then attempted to flash the firmware to the "blank" TeleDongle using
the companion lead supplied with the Starter Kit and my TeleMetrum
Version 1.2 (Firmware Version 1.1.1-1) with the AltOS GUI (Version
1.6.1) and following the procedure in the manual. However, I could only
see and select the TeleMetrum as a device, and even after selecting it I
was unable to specify it as a programming device. In addition, when
selecting the image to flash only the images suited to the TeleMetrum
were made available and the serial number and RF calibration values
displayed were those for the TeleMetrum itself. I was afraid to attempt
to progress any further through the procedure in case I "bricked" my
TeleMetrum.
I also attempted carrying out the companion programming using my
(Starter Pack) TeleDongle Version 0.2 (also Firmware Version 1.1.1-1)
with much the same result as before but with the only difference being
that the image files and serial number and RF calibration values were
for the TeleDongle instead of TeleMetrum. Again I was afraid to progress
any further as I didn't want to risk corrupting the firmware in my only
working TeleDongle.
Am I correct in assuming that non-Starter Pack uncased TeleDongles were
shipped "blank" and so without any firmware?
Are the results of my attempts at companion programming (up to the last
step before stopping and backing out) the same as those normally expected?
Does the device being programmed need to have an existing AltOS image in
order to be successfully programmed?
If this is the case how do I program the "blank" TeleDongle with the
required AltOS image? Also how do I derive the RF calibration value if I
cannot obtain it from an existing (and working) firmware image?
Is my lack of success due to incompatible or widely differing firmware
and AltOS GUI versions? Do I need to revert back to an earlier version
of the AltOS GUI?
I'm quite sure that I've followed the procedure in the manual exactly
and therefore I'm now turning to the combined knowledge of the group in
order to get this little board up and running. Any answers to my
questions, additional information, assistance or suggestions would be
very much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Nigel.

Hello,
I'm getting my TeleMetrum ready for a launch this weekend. I had set the
maximum flight logs to one before the first flight I used it on. I noticed
that when I've tried to change this variable AltOS pops up a message that
the flight logs need to be removed before it can be changed.
If I don't delete the existing flight log will the TM just overwrite it?
Thanks,
Chri
