Keith and I both hope to be able to attend "Thunda Down Under"[1] in
2015, and I've sent the organizers email requesting information on what
it takes to be treated as an on-site vendor.
Of course, it's always more fun to be at a launch when you have something
interesting to fly! Thus, while Keith and I might each show up with a
modest "travel rocket" of some sort... I've started pondering possible
larger "Altus Metrum" group projects. Since transporting a large
airframe to Australia would be a hassle, I wonder if a group project to
build an airframe in-country makes more sense? To that end, I'd be
pleased to know if any of our friends and customers in Australia want to
sign up to help with such a project?
My thoughts would be to engage in some group-think about project scope
and goals, then hope friends in-country would take on the sourcing and
preparation of suitable airframe materials. Depending on who wants to
participate and how tasks get taken up, we might plan to arrive a bit
early to help with any final assembly or other preparations,
installation of suitably fresh Altus Metrum electronics, etc.
So, to all our Aussie friends... does this sound like fun? If so,
please chime in with a reply. I don't expect the email associated with
such a project to be too heavy a load for this list to carry, but we can
always spawn a dedicated lists.gag.com list if I'm wrong.

Some of you have noticed that I've been less responsive recently, in
particular some orders have been slow to ship, and some repairs have sat
longer on my bench than usual. My apologies for that, I hope that
things will be back to normal in another week or two.
That's because I'm immensely pleased to report that we slept in the new

I'll definitely be twisting all the wire pairs per the manual - which I actually did read ;-)
With he electronics on the one side I have room for both lipos on the other side with the switches and the bulk of the wiring. I'll post when I get it all together.

Hi guys:
I have one of the v1.2 Telemetrums. It has flown a half dozen times and
has always worked well.
However, now when I apply power, instead of the 3 beeps (morse code for
S), I am getting 4 beeps, a pause, and then one longer beep. After that
I get the normal I or P morse code depending on mode.
In idle mode it seems normal otherwise. I can communicate with it over
the USB cable and change the configuration etc.
Can you tell me what this means? I looked at the documentation but
didn't see any listing of error codes or anything.

Over the weekend, I was testing RF attenuation due to metallic paint. In my testing, I found that my portable HTs were receiving the TeleGPS transmitter better than my TeleBT. Clearly the RF signal strength was great enough for the HT showing 6 s-units when the TeleBT was completely deaf.
Keith, based on the previous thread, it seems like I may need to have my TeleBT calibrated too? Is there something else I should try?

Altus Metrum announces AltOS 1.5 with EasyMega
Our newest flight computer, EasyMega is a TeleMega without the radios:
* 9 DoF IMU (3 axis accelerometer, 3 axis gyroscope, 3 axis
compass).
* Orientation tracking using the gyroscopes (and quaternions, which
are lots of fun!)
* Four fully-programmable pyro channels, in addition to the usual
apogee and main channels.
New features in the AltOS firmware:
* The APRS secondary station identifier (SSID) is now
configurable by the user. By default, it is set to the last digit
of the serial number.
* Continuity of the four programmable pyro channels on EasyMega and
TeleMega is now indicated via the beeper. Four tones are sent out
after the continuity indication for the apogee and main channels
with high tones indicating continuity and low tones indicating an
open circuit.
* Configurable telemetry data rates. You can now select among 38400
(the previous value, and still the default), 9600 or 2400 bps. To
take advantage of this, you'll need to reflash your TeleDongle or
TeleBT.
Bug fixes in the AltOS firmware:
* TeleGPS had separate flight logs, one for each time the unit was
turned on. Turning the unit on to test stuff and turning it back
off would consume one of the flight log 'slots' on the board; once
all of the slots were full, no further logging would take
place. Now, TeleGPS appends new data to an existing single log.
* Increase the maximum computed altitude from 32767m to
2147483647m. Back when TeleMetrum v1.0 was designed, we never
dreamed we'd be flying to 100k' or more. Now that's surprisingly
common, and so we've increased the size of the altitude data
values to fit modern rocketry needs.
* Continuously evaluate pyro firing condition during delay
period. The previous firmware would evaluate the pyro firing
requirements, and once met, would delay by the indicated amount and
then fire the channel. If the conditions had changed state, the
channel would still fire. Now, the conditions are continuously
evaluated during the delay period and if they change state, the
event is suppressed.
* Allow negative values in the pyro configuration. Now you can select
a negative speed to indicate a descent rate or a negative
acceleration value to indicate acceleration towards the ground.
New features in AltOS for Linux, Mac OSX and Windows:
* Added icons for our file types, and hooked up the file manager so
that AltosUI, TeleGPS and/or MicroPeak are used to view any of our
data files.
* Configuration support for APRS SSIDs, and telemetry data rates.
