Keith and I both hope to be able to attend "Thunda Down Under"[1] in
2015, and I've sent the organizers email requesting information on what
it takes to be treated as an on-site vendor.
Of course, it's always more fun to be at a launch when you have something
interesting to fly! Thus, while Keith and I might each show up with a
modest "travel rocket" of some sort... I've started pondering possible
larger "Altus Metrum" group projects. Since transporting a large
airframe to Australia would be a hassle, I wonder if a group project to
build an airframe in-country makes more sense? To that end, I'd be
pleased to know if any of our friends and customers in Australia want to
sign up to help with such a project?
My thoughts would be to engage in some group-think about project scope
and goals, then hope friends in-country would take on the sourcing and
preparation of suitable airframe materials. Depending on who wants to
participate and how tasks get taken up, we might plan to arrive a bit
early to help with any final assembly or other preparations,
installation of suitably fresh Altus Metrum electronics, etc.
So, to all our Aussie friends... does this sound like fun? If so,
please chime in with a reply. I don't expect the email associated with
such a project to be too heavy a load for this list to carry, but we can
always spawn a dedicated lists.gag.com list if I'm wrong.
Regards,
Bdale

Bdale Garbee,
I have one of your older Altus, which I have not been able to get it to work
with my laptop which has Windows Vista on it. Do I need to uninstall it to
update it?
Bill Wagner
Try installing Java 6, first.

Small suggestion;
You might consider dual-booting the machine with linux as a second operating
system. The altus products are written on linux machines.
Then again.....

I'm sorry to say that we have a new PC that I'm hoping to use to do some

shortly telling me about needing to install Java I get an error saying it
can't load NSISdl.dll, pointing to a temp directory. Any ideas?

EasyMega retail will be $300, intro special of $250 planned for this weekend. On our way to Airfest, will post details tonight.

I have one of the original TeleMega boards version 1.0 and am trying to get it ready for its first flight at AirFest this weekend. It currently has version 1.3.2 image so I am trying to update it to 1.4.1. I have it connected to my Linux machine and I am getting a Cannot open file, TeleMega-v1.0 1233 /dev/ttyACMO (Permission denied (13)). I have chmod to give all permissions to my login and my group. Any ideas?
I tried Windows 7 but run into the driver Code 10 when the system switches into flash mode. I have deleted drivers and USB Host and completed reinstalled ver 1.4.1 and tried 1.4.2.
I have both Windows and Linux. Any ideas?

I'd like a flight computer that can record, along with the usual data, roll, pitch, and yaw for use in the approximation of the dynamic stability, or instability, of a design at various velocities. I can find no references to a flight computer capable of that online nor did I find any instances of the keywords "roll," "pitch," "yaw" or "attitude" in the AltusMetrum all-inclusive PDF documentation even though the TeleMega and EasyMega list a 3-axis 2000 deg/sec gyro chip as one of their components.
Simply the detection and logging of pitch and yaw movements and rates during flight would suffice to allow the identification of anything unusual.
Thanks,
William
First, thanks a ton for Altos 1.4.2. I can finally install it on my
Windows 8.1 machine, which means I don't have to pull out my old
laptop just for this.
Related to the subject line, I had an interesting, if not a bit
frustrating observation tonight. I have a TeleDongle and Telemega.
I was playing around with my TeleMega on channel 9, trying to use the
idle mode monitoring. I've done this before successfully (but not on
channel 9), and wanted to test something unrelated out. I found the
following trying to connect to the TeleMega via the TeleDongle in idle
mode:
In Channels 0-6, everything works fantastically
In Channels 7-9, the TeleDongle is unable to connect to the TeleMega.
In flight mode, the TeleMega transmits on the frequency I would expect
it to normally.
Not a big deal as it's still useable assuming frequencies aren't too
crowded, but it's a bit odd I so I figured I'd email out about it. It
also seems that the time it takes the TeleDongle to connect to the
TeleMega increases as the channel # increases, but I didn't quantify
it.

Great. I was looking for the wrong keywords in the documentation. In the "Configure Graph" window of AltOS, I see the ability to select the graphing of "Rotation Rate" for the x, y, and z axis. I also see the mention of exporting data in csv format.
Any estimate on the availability date and cost of the EasyMega?
Thanks,
William
Both TeleMega and EasyMega record raw sensor data from the accel, gyros, and magnetic sensor in 3 axes in addition to baro, GPS, and high-g accel along the axis of flight.
